To avoid negative publicity of poor taking away oil from used diyas, they used workers to dump all diyas (with remaining oil) into the river.
If true, amazing. The millions of creatures inside the river would have found a new road to hell.pic.twitter.com/gStjEouVik

The diya (earthen lamps) lit for the Deepotsav set two Guinness records. Earlier, the organizers had planned on setting up at least 28 lakh diyas by the banks of the Saryu River; however, only 25,12,585 were kindled at Ram Ki Paidi, which created a new world record. Per reports, over 35 lakh diya were lit across the city, from several mutts, temples, ashrams, and homes. Over 30,000 volunteers from various universities, colleges, and schools helped arrange the diya, wick, and lighting process. Last year there were 22.23 lakh diyas lit. In another Guinness record, 1,121 volunteers and saints performed rotation of diyas as a part of the traditional Saryu Aarti at the Naya Ghat. A fleet of 500 drones added to the lights and shows on the skies of Ayodhya, delighting the devotees. The Deepotsav kick started in the morning itself with 18 tableaux. Artists from 6 different countries performed for the event.
