Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Jio’s Diwali gift for its workers was shared by an employee on Instagram. She unboxed the Diwali dabba that contained a brochure with a message from the Reliance family. Reminiscent of a cookie box, the container had a pouch with an assortment of gifts, including small packets of cashew, almonds, and raisins.
Reactions poured in on social media, with several slamming the Mukesh Ambani family and his company over flashing such wealth and yet delivering a box of dry fruits. “Videshi ke liye 74 crores air jo Ambani ko kama ke de rahe hai use 150 rs ka bonus!” A user took a dig at the Ambanis for splurging crores on pop performers at their wedding gala while spending peanuts on Diwali gifts. “Ye shadi mein bach gay they!” Another user took a dig at the Anant Ambani-Radhika Merchant wedding and pre-wedding extravagance. One netizen accurately described the gift as ‘sewing ki storage box.’ Another user stated that their company got them better gifts. “Iska paise bhi Jio customer se vasoola jaega,” jibed another.
Expecting more than just a few grams of dry fruits from the coffers of Asia’s richest, who have a private zoo for family entertainment, is unwise. The employee certainly expected something unique and not just a pouch of dry fruits. Not even soan papdi! The disappointment is trumped by workers across the country who are still waiting for their pending salaries. For some, even getting paid on time is a luxury.
