Singham Again made quite the impression with its short film for a trailer. It also led to the perception that the film won’t have much to offer after everything was revealed in the teasers and trailers. And yet the film surprises with its comedy and its Ramayan connective direction. Rohit Shetty does warn his audience and the religious critics that the film is not meant to disrespect anyone’s faith or any religion with a two-minute long disclaimer and what follows is a cameo-filled film with a run time of 144 minutes.
Rating- 3.5/5 stars
The film begins with an introduction of what Singham has been up to since he was last seen in solo releases. After taking over duties as a cop from Maharashtra to Kashmir, Singham has been handed the position of a chief to a special squat that can work with his special team and cops across the nation, no questions asked. With Singham in charge, no ego clashes are expected from other cops and his work in the industry has made him a big enough hero to have a massive fan following.
Meanwhile, a quick flash forward later, Avni and Singham both have been happily married enjoying easy government job lives but they are compassionate about their duties. Like a typical revenge story the film introduces the reason and then the villain who is waiting for vengeance, but Singham Again connects all its solo and series releases with a big idea of a villain, which works out well of its Ramayan theme.
The makers make it evident that the story isn’t about good vs bad, religious or national dispute, it’s only about getting back for your family. Arjun Kapoor surprises with hai menacing act and keeps the story moving forward. While some shots are dramatic with exaggerated looks but the actors and the writing tones down through out the run time.
On the other hand, Ajay Devgn, Ranveer Singh and Akshay Kumar are themselves as their characters and just when the story starts to feel slow and repetitive, Ranveer Singh keeps the flow going with his comic timing. Newcomers to the franchise Deepika Padukone and Tiger Shroff are unable to set the tone for themselves but the writing and direction sets them up for a massive debut.
Overall, Ajay Devgn’s film entertains and it entertains well for different fandoms. The comedy is the hero and saves it from getting repetitive for an action entertainer, but the atmosphere it create early on keeps the film going.
